Briggs, a GAO member, fashioned nines of 37-38 while Ravenda, who plays out of Thundering Waters GC, put together nines of 39-36 to tie for second spot. Finishing fourth all alone with a solid 76 was smooth-swinging Tim McGlynn from Lookout Point CC. Tying for fifth spot with dueling 77's were the Tour's fearless leader, Bernie Bodogh, a St. Catharines G&CC member along with fellow committee member Bob Goss, a GAO player. Tying for seventh spot were Tour rookies Taylor Boyd from Grand Niagara, Adam Elliott from Sparrow Lakes, Corey Fiwchuk from Legends on the Niagara, Ryan Gidney from Lookout Point, Stew McEachern from the host club, LochNess Links along with Tour veteran and Beechwood's own John Rodwell. All six players shot rounds of 79.
Outside of the Tour's Spring Qualifier, the competitors had to deal with the worst weather conditions of the year. Temperatures in the low sixties and heavy rains for over half the round made staying warm and dry very difficult and casual water was prevalent on the fairways, greens and in the bunkers.
For the first time in Tour history, there were no skins on the day! That means all the money from this event will be carried over to the Tour's 2008 finale at Thundering Waters in September.
Mark Bolton, a GAO member, knocked his tee shot in tight on the par three 5th hole to take the $50.00 prize in the Closest to the Hole competion, the second event in a row that he's claimed a par three prize. Another GAO member, Bryan Kolbuc, won a gift certificate from Tour sponsor Hangups Sports Wear for knocking his tee shot on the par 3 12th hole to six feet, ten inches. The 50/50 prize winner was Josh Groom, a member at Links of Niagara, who took home $65.00.
With the first five events now completed, the overall points standings have been reset, with each competitor's worst performance eliminated from their record. That being said, we see a tremendous amount of movement in the overall standings as a result of the reset. Briggs moves back into the top spot with 525 points while holding onto second place is Bodogh, who sits with 495 points. Rounding out the top five are 'The Norwegian Sensation' and Tour rookie Jon Odegaard, a Queenston GC member (489.5 points), Ravenda (481.5 points) and Goss (475 points). Technically speaking, with 175 points available to the winner of the Thundering Waters event, anyone currently in the top 11 still has a chance to win the Tour's Overall Championship and take home the Jim McNeil Trophy. Please note that the last event at Thundering Waters is considered a Tour major and the points from this tournament will count for all competitors in the overall standings.
Odegaard still leads the Niagara Golf Report Rookie of the Year race and has built a commanding lead. The 'Magic Man' Kenny Molkoski, who plays out of Sparrow Lakes, is 78.5 points back while McEachern, Fiwchuk and Boyd round out the top five. The Senior point race is led by Briggs, with Ravenda, Goss, Frank Mortensen from Lookout Point and Willie Ormerod from Links of Niagara rounding out the top five.
Tee times for the sixth and final leg of the 2008 Nevada Bob's Men's Tour, being held at Thundering Waters GC in Niagara Falls on Sunday September 14th, will be available in the next couple of weeks. We also hope to soon finalize details regarding practice round privileges for Tour members. We will post this information as soon as it's available.
