Briggsy Victorious at Riverview

June 8, 2008 - Tour co-chairman and the 2007 Overall Champion Jim Briggs scrambled his way to an excellent 73 at Riverview Golf Club on June 8th to win his first event on Tour in 2008.  Briggs, a GAO member, notched four birdies and five bogeys on his round, putting together nines of 37 and 36 to win by a single shot over three others.  Briggsy put the final nail in the coffin with a birdie on the par four 18th to avoid the first playoff of the season.

Finishing in a tie for second place were Tour veterans Matt Bosela from St. Catharines G&CC and Tony Ravenda from Thundering Waters, along with Tour rookie and Norwegian sensation Jon Odegaard from Queenston GC, all of whom shot 74.  Tying for 5th place with 76 were smooth-swinging Tim McGlynn from Lookout Point, the cross-handed star Andrew Wood from Rockway Glen and another Tour rookie, Nick Pasquale from Links of Niagara.  Tour chairman Bernie Bodogh from St. Catharines G&CC, veteran Adam Martin from Port Colborne and 2008 Spring Qualifying winner Ryan Gidney from Lookout Point rounded out the top 10, tying for 8th position after shooting 77.

There were 4 skins on the day, with each worth $140.  Winners were Sawmill's Gil Guitard with a birdie 3 on #7, Odegaard with a birdie 3 on #8, Corey Fiwchuk from Legends on the Niagara with a birdie 2 on #11 and Phil Stouffer, a GAO member, with an eagle 3 on #15.

There were also two closest to the hole awards at Riverview.  Odegaard, continuing to pile up the money on the day, hit it into 17'5" on the long and difficult 9th hole to take the $50.00 prize while Beechwood's own John Rodwell knocked his tee shot into the 16th to 2'3" to win a gift certificate from Tour sponsor Hangups Sports Wear.  The 50/50 prize winner was Brennen Smith, a GAO member, who took home $85.00.

There is a lot of movement at the top of the standings after the third event.  Briggs moves into first place overall after the win with 385 points while Tony Ravenda slips into second overall with 341.5 points.  Rounding out the top five are Odegaard (328.5 points), Kenny Molkoski from Sparrow Lakes (321 points) and McGlynn (315 points).

Tee times for the fourth leg of the Nevada Bob's Men's Tour, being held at Rockway Glen Golf Course in St. Catharines on Sunday July 6th, are now available.  Practice rounds at Rockway can be scheduled for $37.00 (weekdays only) by calling the pro shop at 905-641-4536.
