McEachern, who plays out of LochNess Links, fashioned nines of 37-37 in his best-ever Tour finish. Finishing in a tie for third place were Tour veterans Bob Goss, a GAO member and Adam Martin from Port Colborne G&CC, along with Tour rookies Jon 'Norwegian Sensation' Odegaard, who plays out of Queenston GC and Nick Pasquale of Links of Niagara, all of whom shot solid 75s. Tying for 7th place with 76 were two more Tour rookies in Corey Fiwchuk from Legends on the Niagara and last year's Junior Tour champion Kenny 'Magic Man' Molkoski from Sparrow Lakes G&CC along with Tour veterans Willie Ormerod from Links of Niagara, Beechwood's own John Rodwell and Andrew Wood, who took advantage of his home course knowledge at Rockway.
Rockway Glen was arguably as green and lush as it's ever been due to the plentiful early season rains in the Niagara Region, which meant thick rough and slower greens. However, the weather was not a factor for one of the first times all year, as the players basked under cloudless skies and temperatures in the mid-80's. The result of this was low scoring, with more than half the field (27 of 50 participants) breaking 80 on the day.
There were only 2 skins on the day, with each worth a whopping $275.00. Winners were Fiwchuk, who birdied the difficult par three 6th hole and Andy Ragats, a GAO member, who eagled the par 5 16th. Fiwchuk's skin was his second in as many events.
He would continue to rake in the money by taking the $50.00 prize in the Closest to the Hole competion, as his tee shot at six settled 2' 10" away. GAO member Mark Bolton won a gift certificate from Tour sponsor Hangups Sports Wear for knocking his tee shot on the par 3 finishing hole to two feet. The 50/50 prize winner was Molkoski, who took home $85.00.
Once again, we see a tremendous amount of movement in the overall standings. Odegaard moves back into the top spot with 443.5 points while storming into second place is Rockway winner Bodogh, who sits with 431.5 points. Rounding out the top five are Molkoski (411 points), Goss (401.5 points) and GAO member Jim Briggs (400 points).
Odegaard also leads the Niagara Golf Report Rookie of the Year race, with Molkoski and Fiwchuk close behind. The Senior point race is led by Goss, with Briggs and Tony Ravenda from Thundering Waters in second and third respectively.
Tee times for the fifth leg of the Nevada Bob's Men's Tour, being held at LochNess Links in Welland on Sunday August 10th, will be available in the next couple of weeks. The Tour committee is also finalizing details with LochNess Links head pro Bob Culig regarding practice round privileges for Tour members. We will post this information as soon as it's available.
